Volley Salt™ began where some of the best things in life begin—around a table shared with others.
I've always believed that food has a unique way of bringing people together. Some of my favorite memories have been made in the kitchen, preparing meals for family, friends, and guests. Cooking has never just been about the food. It has been about serving people, creating moments of hospitality, and making space for meaningful conversations.
One of the unexpected gifts from my years as a professional chef was a simple seasoning blend I developed to use in my cooking. The roots of the recipe, however, came from a friend and chef mentor, Don Smart, who taught me so much in my early days as a chef. Over the years, I changed, tweaked and experimented until I had a recipe of my own.
The final version came about while serving in a mission kitchen in the United Kingdom. It found its way into so many meals that we cooked. The volunteers who worked alongside me loved using it, and eventually we realized it needed a name. One of the volunteers suggested "Volley Salt," inspired by the word "volleys"—what the volunteers were called there. It was a simple name for a simple seasoning, and it stuck.
After years working in professional kitchens, I saw how the right balance of seasonings could transform a dish from ordinary to unforgettable. I also saw that many people were either settling for bland table salt or complicated blends filled with unnecessary ingredients. I wanted to create something different: a seasoning that was simple, versatile, and genuinely delicious.
Volley Salt was created to help transform everyday meals into something special. Whether it's steak, burgers, grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, fries, popcorn, eggs in the morning or a late-night snack, it was designed to be the seasoning you reach for again and again.

For many years, I've had the privilege of serving missionaries and ministry leaders. I've seen both the joy of their work and the quiet weight they often carry. Those experiences planted a dream that continues to shape everything I'm building—my wife and I want to create a place, a retreat house, where people who spend their lives serving others can step away from the demands around them, find rest, recovery, receive care, and return refreshed.
